Track and Field Earns League Title; Athletes Move on to CIF Competition

Gianna Beasley will compete tomorrow in the CIF Prelims

With a victory at Rio Hondo League Finals last Friday, South Pas High Track and Field head coach CB Richards extended his unbeaten streak in dual meets to seven straight seasons.

That’s right, South Pasadena hasn’t lost a league meet in seven years.

This year’s slate of top performers included Molly Round, high jump; Ashley Hugasian, triple jump; Lauren Kafkaloff, shot put; Josiah Topping; shot put; Tianhao Wei, 100 meter dash, long jump, triple jump; Christina Taylor, 400 meter; Gianna Beasley, 800 meter; Oliver Chang, 1600 meter and 3200 meter; and Kai Dettman, 800 meter.

Highlights came from Dettman, who recorded a personal best 1:55.92 in the 800 meter to finish first; Taylor, who crossed the finish line in the 400 meter in 58.12; Round, who cleared five feet in the high jump; Wei, who qualified for CIF with a 11.12 in the 100 meter dash; and Oliver Chang, who easily took home gold in the mile and 2 mile races.

CIF Prelims will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Estancia. Finals will be held at El Camino College the following Saturday.
