The stars shone very brightly on Saturday evening, February 24, 2018 at the Marengo Elementary School Talent Show. 72 acts comprised of 160 students, aged kindergarten through 5th grade, graced the stage at the South Pasadena Middle School.
The sixty-second-long acts ranged from song and dance numbers to parody skits, magic and stand-up comedy. Musical acts included piano, cello, ukulele, two drummers and an electric violinist. Especially noteworthy were a brother/sister Latin dance duet, a group of Dancing Narwals, a barrage of flying tacos, three acts based on the musical “Hamilton” and three with a “Star Wars” theme. Friday’s school performance also featured a dance to “I Like To Move It” by the Marengo teachers and staff.
This year’s Talent Show Committee was comprised of John Aboud, Jill Gold Wright, Tegan Jones, Hector Ornelas, Kaya Shaffer, Sara Shaffer and Kristen Swift. A wonderful team of student and parent volunteers joined in to create the smoothly-run production. Saturday night’s finale featured an all-cast dance-off to “The Greatest Showman” with a balloon drop behind them. The audience was brought to its feet by the ever-talented and super-enthusiastic Marengo Elementary kids, who did themselves and the city proud.
