SPARC at the Eclectic Fest Features Dance, Music, Exhibits, Art

The South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC) will offer a variety of performances, exhibitions, and interactive dance and art activities for all ages as part of the South Pasadena Eclectic Music Festival and Arts Crawl on Saturday, April 27, from 3 to 10 p.m. at the SPARC Gallery at the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, 1121 Mission St., and in the SPARC Activity Zone located in front of South Pasadena City Hall and in the City Hall courtyard at 1414 Mission Street.

The Line-Up

SPARC ACTIVITY ZONE

3 to 3:30 p.m.: Young Stars Theatre Company featuring songs from the musical, Disney’s “Frozen Junior.” (Young Stars Theatre will open the first Southern California run of the musical on May 10 at South Pasadena Fremont Centre Theatre.)

3:30 to 4 p.m.: A performance by the South Pasadena High School Choir led by Lia Donovan-Jones.

3-5 p.m.: A Plein Air painting demonstration with artist Laurie Hendricks.

4 to 4:30 p.m.: Kids can learn a musical theatre choreography routine from “Seussical! Junior,’ led by choreographer/dance teacher Mirai Booth-Ong. (Adults welcome, too.)

Ongoing, 4 to 9 p.m.: Kids Coloring Corner. Interactive coloring poster for adults created by local artist Dominique Heffley. Whimsical Photo Op boards designed by local artists.

4:30 to 5 p.m.: A hula demo and lesson with Hawaiian/Polynesian dance teacher Lori Andrew. For kids and adults.

5 to 5:30 p.m.: Tap dance demo and lesson with Mirai Booth-Ong. For kids and adults.

6 to 6:45 p.m.: Performance by The Dukes of Hazardous Waste Quartet (David Zableckis and Paul Baranich, with Stan Townsend, Markus Innocenti) featuring cowboy campfire songs drawn from sources ranging from the Byrds and Little Feat to Leonard Cohen and Gram Parsons.

7 to 7:30 p.m.: Salsa dance demo & lesson with Latin Hip Hop Artist and dance teacher Cuba Swift, creator of the DVD series “Salsa Hip Hop Dance & Fitness.”

7:30 to 8:15 p.m.: Hip hop demo and lesson with Cuba Swift. 8:30 to 10 p.m.: Open stage for anyone who wants to dance!

SPARC GALLERY AT CITY HALL

3 to 8:30 p.m.: “A Day in the Life,” Plein Air paintings by Laurie Hendricks (downstairs); and “Childhood 101,” photographs by Kathleen Laraia McLaughlin (upstairs).

5 to 5:30 p.m.: Meet South Pasadena Mayor Marina Khubesrian. 5:30 to 6 p.m.: Meet South Pasadena Council members.

SPARC GALLERY AT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

4 to 9 p.m.: The exhibit “Here and Somewhere Else,” by artist Timothy McMullen; interactive coloring poster activity created by Dominique Heffley.
