Between June 2-9, 2018, thousands of police officers and firefighters from around the nation converged in San Diego for the 2018 United States Police and Fire Championship Games.
This annual event is an Olympic style competition with athletes representing law enforcement and firefighters from across the country to compete in over 50 different sports in 35 venues throughout San Diego County.
South Pasadena Police Detective Richard Lee competed in the pistol competition and won four gold and one bronze medal in his division, as well as establishing a new record high in his division in the Men’s Service Gun.
In addition to the individual competitions, Detective Lee partnered with Pasadena Police Officer Nicholas Cheung to form a two-man shooting team. The two officers trained together since March to prepare for the competition and were rewarded by winning the gold medal in their division in the Service Gun Two-Person Team event.
Winning the gold in the team event helps strengthens the relationships between both departments as well as the camaraderie between officers.
