South Pasadena native and American Ballet Theater principal dancer Stella Abrera returns to L.A. to perform Saturday night at the Huntington Gardens.
Abrera and fellow ABT principal dancer Cory Stearns will be dancing the second act of “Giselle’’ as part of the production put on by Muse/ique.
“I used to do cartwheels on the lawn of the Huntington, and to come back as a ballerina in ‘Giselle’ will be magical,’’ said Abrera, who is celebrating her 23rd year with ABT.
Abrera went to South Pasadena High School before leaving at the age of 17 to join the ABT.
“It is always meaningful for me to return to my hometown and see my family and friends,’’ she said, “and to come back as a ballerina is something I’m very proud of.’’
The Muse/ique production Saturday, from 8-10 p.m. will also feature a piano duo, three other members of the ABT company and the Muse/ique orchestra.
Tickets are from $50-$130 and can be purchased by going to the Huntington website.
Muse/ique’s goal is to pioneer new musical experiences for people by creating live musical events and outreach programs. These programs are aimed at inspiring the creative spirit and fostering new generations of music lovers.
ABT is based in New York City and is considered one of the world’s premier dance companies. It annually tours the U.S., performing to 300,000 people every year.
