The South Pasadena High School varsity girls soccer team Wednesday afternoon went down to defeat quietly, 1-0, at the hands of a disciplined, practiced Sierra Canyon in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
Although being crowned champions of the Rio Hondo League, the Tigers were scored upon early in this match and played the rest of the game trying to catch up.
The Tigers also moved up a division this year, from 5 to 3, but that wasn’t the reason for the loss, according to head coach Tory Lathrop.
“It definitely played into it but we just came out today and conceded that goal way too early,” Lathrop said after the match that was played at the So Pas High Stadium. “They just didn’t have the drive. They didn’t have the ability to work the ball. I don’t if it was because they were just scared. I don’t know.”
The Tigers ended the season with a league record of 5-2-1. Their overall record with this loss is 12-5-1.
