The South Pasadena Senior Center is once again looking for donations to stock its annual “holiday cheer bags,’’ which will be delivered to frail and home-bound seniors in the coming weeks.
It’s the 13th straight year the Senior Center is putting together the bags, which are expected to go to some 25 residents for whom holiday cheer is in short supply.
The Senior Center is looking for donations of gift cards, cookies and candy to create meaningful, cheerful and tasty gift bags for elders who are isolated and homebound. Organizers said gift cards from Vons, Trader Joe’s, Pavilions, Albertson’s, Rite Aid and Target are particularly appreciated.
After the bags are assembled, they are delivered by the Senior Citizen Commission to South Pasadena residents.
Herb Shon, Bob Vanderwall, Julie Papadakis, Cindi Knight and Alexandria Levitt pick up the bags, assembled and decorated by Lilliana Torres, Senior Center director, and deliver them to the doors of senior citizens, who are invariably surprised, delighted and appreciative.
The Senior Center asks that, when you’re out this holiday season, to please consider picking up an extra gift card or two or a package of festive cookies and dropping these off at the Senior Center, located next to the South Pasadena Library.
Cash is accepted as well, and will be turned into gift cards as needed. Donations are being accepted through Dec. 16. For more information, call the South Pasadena Senior Center (626) 403-7360.
