Scout Troop 342 Selling Greenery for Fundraiser

It’s That Time of Year, Again!

Christmas in October? In South Pasadena we don’t need to wait for Black Friday to start our Christmas Season. For the month of October, local Boy Scout Troop 342 undertakes its 66th(!) Annual Greenery Fundraiser.

Troop 342 Scouts started off at local grocery stores the weekend of September 23, but the real sales begin when the Scouts spread out across South Pasadena (and parts of Pasadena) for two consecutive weekends (September 30, October 1, 7 and 8) knocking on doors with catalogs in hand to sell you the freshest and most beautiful holiday Greenery available.

“This year, in addition to our usual nine different products for buyers to choose from, we have added a new keepsake item to keep year-to-year, colorful votive candle holders,” says Carolyn Thompson, the Troop’s coordinator for greenery sales, “and there is always something for every home and every budget.”

In its 91st year, Troop 342 is one of the oldest Boy Scout troops in the San Gabriel Valley, and for most of that time they have sold these same, hand-crafted holiday decorations. Sourced from Sherwood Forest Farms in the Pacific Northwest, the wreaths, garlands, door swags and more are hand-crafted from freshly cut, sustainably-harvested aromatic Noble Fir, Cedar and Pine, and then hand-delivered by the Scouts to your door the week after Thanksgiving—just in time to help you greet the season.

“This is our one and only fundraiser and the proceeds not only fund our troop events, activities and community service projects, but each scout earns money towards the cost of summer camp,” added Troop Committee Chair Dean Serwin.

What to do if you are not home when the scouts visit over the next couple of weekends? That’s no problem, the scout will leave behind a full-color catalog stickered with his name and phone number so you can give him a call at your convenience to place an order. No catalog at your door? You can always reach out directly to Mrs. Thompson at 323-342-9490 and she will have a scout bring you one! All orders are due no later than October 25 so they can be prepared and delivered in time, so don’t wait until it is too late and instead order when the Scouts stop by this weekend or the next.
