A South Pasadena mother is distressed as she frantically searches for her mentally challenged adult son who went missing nearly two weeks ago. This Saturday, Aug. 4, will be his 45th birthday.
Andrew “Andy” Dart, 44, has been missing since July 21, when he left the So Pas home he shares with his mother, Pamela. She fears her mentally challenged adult son may have been harmed.
As of press time Wednesday evening, Andy was still missing, according to Pamela and police.
Andrew lives with his mother near Garfield Park and left their home suddenly for no apparent reason, according to Pamela.
“There is no reason that I know of,” Pamela said. “He left behind his cell phone, broken,” she said. “He left behind his sunglasses, broken. I have been looking every day since. I’m worried sick. I have to go back to my job. I work, but I really need help.”
Pamela filed a missing person report with the South Pasadena Police Department on July 22, the day after Andy went missing.
With help from friends, she has been looking at all the places Andrew likes to frequent, she said, including McDonald’s, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and El Pollo Loco, all along Fair Oaks Avenue.
“Andy is not a street person, not street savvy,” she said. “We have to find him.” Pamela also said that Andy has not been on his medication for bipolar disorder among other mental challenges, and which could be causing severe disorientation.
“He’s not thinking clearly now,” she said. “He also suffers from fear and flight,” she said. “When he gets afraid he leaves. He takes off.”
Pamela has had help in the search from family and friends, who have been looking everywhere in South Pasadena and Pasadena.
“I had a posse of people helping me the other day,” she said. There have been a few sightings, she said, along Fair Oaks Avenue, but nothing concrete.
“I’ve been searching day and night for him,” she said. “I don’t know what else to do. I really need help.”
Andrew is 5 feet 10 inches tall, light skinned, balding and possibly wearing glasses, Pamela said. He was last seen wearing sweat pants with the word “California” on the side. He also was wearing a white t-shirt with black sleeves.
