Hard Day’s Night, a Beatles tribute band, entertained hundreds of local residents during their concert at Garfield Park on Sunday.
In fact, some longtime attendees observed that this was one of the largest audiences for Concerts in the Park in recent memory. Concerts in the Park are put on by South Pasadena and are free to the public.
The concert Sunday featured Jeff Toczynski as Paul McCartney, Howard Pattow as John Lennon, Jimmy Pou as George Harrison, and Mike Sarafian as Ringo Starr performing the greatest Beatles hits.
Bandmembers say authenticity is at the heart of this tribute musical group. These guys have been playing Beatles tunes for 20 years, according to the group.
“We’re all fans or we wouldn’t be doing this,” said Toczynski. “We have authentic costumes and instruments.”
The band has played all over the world, including cities in Europe, Asia, Japan, Canada and in this country. Hard Day’s Night play small and large venues as well as private parties.
The band plays more than 100 songs from the Beatles catalog. And they always start chronologically.
“People like it to follow the history of the Beatles from the beginning,” said Toczynski. “We have fun because if it wasn’t, we wouldn’t be doing it, especially for so long.”
“The more fun the crowd has, the more fun we have so we definitely feed off people at the show,” added Toczynski.
“Every gig is completely different,” said Pou. Whether that is performing in Tom Hanks’ backyard or in South Pasadena, performing Beatles songs never gets old and it’s always a blast to play in Hard Day’s Night.
The last Concerts in the Park performance will feature The Answer playing classic rock on July 29. The concert will be from 5 to 7 p.m. in Garfield Park.
