Pasadena. The fall edition hits town on Oct. 19.

With the fall “Arts Crawl” just around the corner, residents, artists and business owners are getting ready for one of the most popular events in South Pasadena.
And, while past crawls have been contained along Mission Street, this one will be bigger — with events and vendors also occupying a stretch of Meridian Avenue.
The family-friendly “Neighborhood Night on the Town” will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 and is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and SPACE, a non-profit community organization that highlights the importance of the arts.
“We are excited that this Fall Arts Crawl will have some added features,” said Hope Perello, co-producer of the Arts Crawl. “For the first time, we will be starting the event at 4 p.m. to give event-goers more time to take advantage of all that there is to do. We are also presenting the Gold Line Stage, near the Metro Station, which features a lineup of local musicians from the South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory playing an eclectic array of music from 4 to 8 p.m.”
Other musical entertainment for the event will include a performance by The Pascale Music Institute’s young string players at Jones Coffee, singer/songwriter Alicia Blue at Handle Gifts, and local band The Drive at Griffins of Kinsale.
Local businesses Kidd’s Jewelry Heist and The Dinosaur Farm are teaming up to present a performance by the Mission Street Music Club from 8 to 9 p.m.
In addition to music, there will be a variety of art and activities for attendees to enjoy. Sugarmynt Gallery will feature a “Haddonfield 8” exhibit in honor of the “Halloween” movie series, along with a film screening. Artist Lisa Duardo will be providing a free art activity for all ages featuring Day of the Dead bandana screen printing and a pumpkin-making craft, and SPARC is presenting a variety of activities at City Hall, including a closing reception for Deborah Van Der Zaag and David Johnson’s shows.
Kids will enjoy a variety of fun activities such as a glitter tattoo artist and balloon twisting fun at Adobe Creative, printmaking activity at Two Kids Coffee and a coloring station for all ages at Ellen’s Silkscreening.
The South Pasadena Library is also partnering with Litfest Pasadena to offer free journaling workshops from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m., when participants will be guided by writer Camari Carter-Hawkins to find their way back to their creative selves.
For event-goers who work up an appetite, food trucks such as Sticky Rice and Dreamy Creations will be posted up along the event route, and The Munch Company will be hosting a special taco and candlelight karaoke night from 5 to 8 p.m. Mission Wines will offer beers on tap and selected wines at discounted prices from 1 to 5 p.m.
Award-winning chalk artist Ronny Johnson, who created a beautiful sidewalk drawing of the South Pasadena parrots for the Summer Arts Crawl, is returning to create another street mural along the event route.
This year, the Arts Crawl will also be closing down Meridian Avenue between Mission and El Centro Streets to allow greater access to the stage and to host a larger number of vendors in the Artisans’ Alley.
Artisans’ Alley will host an array of booths showcasing gifts and unique items by artisans and craftspeople, and local businesses such as Rue de Mimo and Camille de Pedrini will offer special sales for the Arts Crawl.
“We love that the event attracts people of all ages who come out to the city’s business district to get creative, visit local merchants and take advantage of the talent our citizens have to offer,” said Perello.
An event map with a list of activities and performers will be distributed in the South Pasadena Business District on Friday Oct. 18.
