Garage Fire on 1700 Block of Monterey Road

At 3:27 p.m. Wednesday afternoon the South Pasadena Police and Fire Department received a 911 phone call reporting a garage fire on the 1700 block of Monterey Road. Around 30 firefighters from South Pasadena, Alhambra, San Marino and Pasadena responded in time to put out the fire and contain it to the detached garage. The first on site found the home owner attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose.

The homeowners were in their residence at the time the fire started but no one was injured. An investigation is ongoing to determine how the blaze started. Everything inside the fully packed garage was destroyed, including three bicycles.

Corporal Craig Philips said he expected Marengo Avenue from Monterey Road to Bank Street to be closed until approximately 5:30 p.m., but that all other surrounding roads were to remain open. Marengo had been closed down to allow fire trucks to access the back alley in which the garage sits.
