Residents are encouraged to bring any household hazardous waste and electronics waste to a free recycling event — “Too Toxic To Trash” — on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Pasadena Unified School District headquarters parking lot at 1020 El Centro St.
Attendees should enter the parking lot from Diamond Avenue.
The event is open to Los Angeles County residents, and no business waste will be accepted. Residents should bring items in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers. There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.
Eligible items that can be disposed of at the event include motor oil, oil filters, brake fluid, used antifreeze, paint, paint thinner, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides or herbicides, household batteries, car batteries, pool chemicals, cathode-ray tubes, old TVs, miscellaneous electronics, mercury thermometers or thermostats, fluorescent light bulbs, used needles or sharps (in a sharps container or study box labeled “SHARPS”) and unwanted or expired prescriptions.
Items that will not be accepted include explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash, tires, large appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines or controlled substances.
Residents should be prepared to leave containers and boxes. All other items should be removed from the vehicle trunk, and residents are asked to remain in their vehicle during collection.
The event is sponsored by Los Angeles County and presented by L.A. County Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of L.A. County, in cooperation with the City of South Pasadena.
