After touring worldwide with the renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra, Los Angeles-based singer Maria Schafer and Dallas-native trumpeter Brad Black visit the Blue Guitar with their hard-swinging 8-piece band — Lady Sings, Trumpet Swings! The band features a blend of hard swinging straight ahead jazz, bouncing bossa novas, dirty blues, jumping trad jazz, and even some modern originals to place the spotlight squarely on “Downbeat darling” Maria’s impressive vocals and Brad Black’s engaging showmanship and memorable trumpet style. Both artists are featured on Maria’s debut 2018 album, To Know Love. The New York City Jazz Record called it a “knockout debut.” Riveting Riffs Magazine says it’s “A treat for anyone…evocative vocals enveloped in equally emotive instrumentals.” Maria and Brad will be joined by an outstanding band consisting of Chad Willis, Phil Menchaca, Will Vargas, Anthony Lucca, Max Kraus, and Kevin Van Den Elzen.
