

Donald Bates Winkle, age 57, of Pomona, passed away on Dec. 6, after a fierce battle with cancer, his family announced.
Don was born on Jan. 16, 1962 in Hollywood. He grew up in South Pasadena, attending Marengo Elementary, South Pasadena Junior High and South Pasadena High School, where he played football and was elected to class officer and commissioner roles.
He attended Sacramento State University and remained in the Central Valley area as he married and began his family. His professional life focused on retail management and construction services. He was a lifelong hockey lover, having played from age 4 through adulthood.
Don is survived by his daughter, Dr. Cortney Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Peter Giulioni; and nephew and niece, Nick and Jenna Giulioni.
Don will be entombed in a private service at Oakdale Cemetery, where his parents, Donald and Juanita Winkle, are buried.
