The South Pasadena City Council meeting on Oct. 17 recognized animal and human alike.

There was the presentation of Brandi, a female Chihuahua mix, by Chris Briffett of the Pasadena Humane Society to the council during the public session. Brandi is up for adoption and the So Pas City Council advocates the adoption of abandoned animals and has representatives from the Humane Society to come in front of the council to talk about the latest adoptions.

Then, there was the presentation to Councilmember Michael Cacciotti, District 4, of what he characterized as “the strongest spirits” he’d ever tasted. It turned out to be a strong rice wine presented to him on behalf of two prominent local Chinese-Americans.

Finally, the City Council recognized Olaf and Helga Weidekat of Mission Framing for running a successful downtown So Pas business for the past 29 years. The Certificate of Recognition was presented to the Weidekat’s by Mayor Dr. Richard D. Schneider. Mission Framing is still open for business, but the Weidekat’s are going to reduce their participation in the company that provides a variety of custom frames for any type of presentation. The council expressed their gratitude for the hard work and dedication the couple gave to the business. The Weidekat’s expressed their gratitude for the recognition and said they were going to devote their time to another one of their loves, gardening.
