The latest rain storm that has been pounding the area for days has resulted in a 50-foot Eucalyptus tree and a nearby large Oak tree crashing onto the roof of the rear corner of a house at 512 Meridian Ave., South Pasadena, at about 3 p.m. today.
No one was injured from the tree crashing onto the house, according to So Pas fire officials, but did cause moderate structural damage to one bedroom. The South Pasadena Fire Department responded in less than five minutes with one engine, fire officials said.
The saturated ground combined with the heavy pounding of the rain and wind caused the large trees to uproot and fall onto the house. So Pas Fire Captain Kris Saxon along three firefighters responded and monitored and evaluated the situation. They were at the house for about an hour before securing the area and departing. The homeowner will follow up with the clean-up and removal.
So Pas fire officials remind homeowners that free sand and sandbags are available at Arroyo Park, Stoney Drive, next to the baseball fields. Sandbags only are available at the South Pasadena Fire Station, 817 Mound Ave., next to City Hall. Moreover, they encourage residents to continue to monitor their surroundings and ensure all gutters are clear of debris or impediment that could cause flooding.
The forecast is for a wet week ahead, according to the National Weather Service.
